Sportster 883 is suitable for low-speed city driving with low torque, like 3750 rpm on average. But 1200 custom can provide more torque on the long journey, like 5,300 RPM. I ride an '06 1200 Custom and having carbs really isn't an issue for me. I've never had anything else. The bikes are basically the same and I guess it depends on the price difference.
