Last of us 1 was a masterpiece, it was an emotional story about two great characters. Last of us 2 in comparison ( just as great in my opinion) is dark, gritty and extremely tense. the tone of the game is way more mature and represents the characters experiencing way more complex emotions. Its a beautiful game, just be ready for it to be DIFFERENT.

Even if it's not great, its definitely worth taking a look yourself just so you can potentially understand the heavy criticisms of it. Basically, yeah the gameplay feels way smoother than TLOU1, but honestly even for story I'd say it's worth a single playthrough just to understand what people like and/or dislike about it.
